Right now my head is swimming.
I’m reading a book by Michael Hyatt called ‘Platform’ which is about the importance of building your platform if you want to be seen or heard. The premise is that we are all selling. No matter what position you’re in, you’re always selling – whether it’s influencing employees in your office, clients in the marketplace, or even your family at home.
When it comes to the marketplace, it can be very hard in this noisy world to be recognized. Yet Mr. Hyatt feels that despite the noise, it’s also the best time to raise your platform because, unlike years past when getting your message out cost a fortune, you can now harness the power of social media to have an even greater reach. It rings true to me across the board – and ours is a business that is tied closely with social media, so it clearly makes sense for us.
Think before you speak.
But just think through the commitment involved in building and managing a comprehensive social platform, in which you regularly communicate with your community or tribe. It’s huge. It’s daunting. But it’s doable.
And it’s necessary. And the longer you wait, the farther you will fall behind. So I’m diving in – anyone care to join me? A great line from @MichaelHyatt— “The best time to begin building your platform is yesterday. The good news is that the second best time to begin building your platform is today!”
